Electrical Workshop Technician

Composite Components

Position Overview

Can You Build Control Cabinets and Machinery from the Ground Up?

We’re looking for an experienced Electrical Workshop Technician to build control cabinets, specialist machinery and equipment at our Saltash facility.

This is a hands-on engineering role in a high-value, low-volume manufacturing environment, working on both standard and bespoke equipment. It isn’t a typical production-line assembly role – you’ll work from technical drawings to build complete systems, while also using your practical experience to solve problems and contribute to non-standard builds.

Your focus will be electrical wiring, installation and control panel building, but you can also work with mechanical, pneumatic and fluid systems.

About This Role

Permanent | Full Time | Saltash, Cornwall

Salary: From £30,000 per annum, depending on experience

Location: You should live within daily commuting distance of our Saltash facility.

At Composite Integration, every machine and project you build contributes to world-class innovation, from luxury yachts and giant wind turbine blades to cutting-edge aerospace components.

We’re not just building machines; we’re pioneering processes that have transformed the composites industry, including the Direct Infusion process we developed in the early 2000s. Customers worldwide trust our machines and solutions for precision, reliability and innovation, but it’s our people who make it all possible.

About the Role

As an Electrical Workshop Technician, you’ll work as part of our engineering team to build specialist machines and equipment to the required specifications, quality standards and project deadlines.

You’ll have your own workbench and tools and will work from technical drawings and schematics to build, wire and assemble equipment.

Because many of our systems are bespoke, you’ll also need to be comfortable problem-solving and working with colleagues to find practical solutions when a build isn’t completely standard.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build and wire electrical control cabinets and control panels from technical drawings and schematics
  • Carry out electrical wiring and installation on specialist machinery and equipment
  • Build standard and bespoke machines in a high-value, low-volume environment
  • Read, understand and work accurately from technical drawings and documentation
  • Support the assembly of mechanical, pneumatic and fluid systems where required
  • Support the testing and commissioning of newly built equipment
  • Identify and resolve practical issues during equipment builds
  • Ensure machines and equipment are built to the required specifications and quality standards
  • Complete relevant build and quality documentation accurately
  • Work to agreed project deadlines and production targets
  • Maintain a clean, organised and professional workshop environment

Hands-on training can be provided to develop additional skills required for specific equipment and tasks.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a practical, quality-focused Electrical Workshop Technician with hands-on experience building and wiring electrical control cabinets or industrial machinery.

You’ll need to be comfortable working from technical drawings, completing detailed electrical assembly work and taking responsibility for the quality of your build.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Practical, hands-on experience building and wiring electrical control cabinets, control panels or industrial machinery
  • Experience carrying out electrical wiring and installation
  • Ability to understand and work accurately from technical drawings and electrical schematics
  • Good practical and manual skills with an eye for detail
  • Understanding of equipment build, testing and commissioning
  • Ability to work accurately and consistently to defined specifications and standards
  • Practical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to complete build paperwork and technical documentation accurately
  • Good computer literacy
  • Ability to organise your workload and work to project deadlines

Advantageous Experience

  • Mechanical assembly
  • Pneumatic systems
  • Fluid systems
  • Industrial machinery or automated equipment
  • Equipment testing and commissioning
  • Experience working in a high-value, low-volume or bespoke manufacturing environment
  • Level 3 BTEC qualification in Engineering or a relevant subject, or equivalent technical qualification

You don’t need previous composites experience. We’ll teach you our equipment and processes; we’re looking for strong practical electrical skills, attention to detail, and experience building high-quality equipment.

The Person

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Takes ownership and pride in producing high-quality work
  • Has a strong eye for detail and checks their work carefully
  • Is practical and enjoys hands-on engineering
  • Can work accurately and methodically
  • Is comfortable solving problems and asking questions when needed
  • Is organised and able to manage their workload effectively
  • Works well as part of a team but is equally comfortable working independently
  • Is adaptable and willing to get involved in different aspects of equipment builds
  • Is keen to learn and develop new engineering skills
